Jane Wilson-MarquisJane Wilson-Marquis was born and raised in England. There she studied dance, taught actors how to move and choreographed many integrated theatre pieces.

She began her career as a clothing designer in London, crossing the Atlantic over20 years ago. After several successful incarnations, Jane now operates a private couturier salon specializing in fashion for the entire bridal party as well custom tailored eveningwear for her distinguished clientele. Her salon is located on New York’s prestigious Upper East Side. Today we are witness a new direction for a Bridal Fashion as Jane unveils Simply Jane.

In 1978 Jane partnered with Cora Hysinger to form Cora & Jane . Soon thereafter they were recognized as Soho’s hot up and coming design team along with Commes des Garcon and Yoshi Yammamoto. Their specialty was unique hand beaded eveningwear. Cora & Jane’s designs were sold at Barney’s, all 22 Saks Fifth Avenue Stores as well as many others high end retail outlets. Their designs were worn by the likes of Diana Ross and Edie Gorme. Publicity coverage was everywhere from Harper’s Bazaar to Women’s Wear Daily.

Jane’s inspiration derives from Greco-Roman, Medieval and the Arts and Crafts periods. Her clothes create a romantic vision and wrap the wearer in sculptured swatches of luxurious fabrics. Jane is equally inspired by a wide array of materials ranging from diaphanous silk chiffon to bold silk satin. Her color palette borrows from nature and the heavens.

During these years Jane honed her craft , adding to her understanding of what is important to her customers. Slowly yesterday’s ”evening black” evolved into today’s “wedding white” as Jane built the company which now retails her exclusive designs.

Jane’s designs have been featured in film, theater, television and the performing arts. The wedding designs on film can be seen in Sandra Bullock’s Force of Nature, Kate& Leopold starring Meg Ryan and Hugh Jackman, The Pallbearer starring David Schwimmer and Gwyneth Paltrow, and the feature actor, director John Turturro. Romance & Cigarettes starring Susan Sarandon and Mandy Moore. Moore wears a couture mini wedding dress designed for the film, which recently had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Jane’s fashions have also been featured on several reality shows on cable and recently, Dorian Lord wed in couture ensemble on ABC’s One Life To Live. At the daytime Emmy’s this April 2006, Actress Robin Strasser wore one of her gowns.

Jane Wilson Marquis couture eveningwear has graced stages around the world. Seen last year at New York’s Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, at The United Nations 2003 and on the cover art of the latest album 2006from world touring jazz chanteuse Chris McNulty, currently in stores. Daughter of famed country legend Johnny Cash and country music star in her own right, Roseanne Cash’s special day was featured in Martha Stewart’s Weddings. She wore a wedding gown designed especially for her by Jane Wilson Marquis.

The families of High Society and public leaders have been entranced by Jane’s couture for the ability the clothing has to make a subtle yet lasting impression. The immaculate tailoring and attention to detail have attracted the daughters of Roosevelt and Freud, Kennedy and Moyrihan and other design influencers such as the Russian and British aristocracy.

Designing the perfect dress is still Jane’s greatest pleasure. When not designing she splits her time between NYC and her house and garden in the country. Being close to nature and gardening is a big part of her life. After having married several times and raising two children, she now lives with the perfect companions, her two macaws…. Thor and Oz.
